Which direction is worth converting

Format conversion is not free: every lossy round trip costs a generation of quality. Convert in the direction that solves a real problem — WebP to shave a quarter off a JPG, PNG to preserve transparency, JPG to satisfy a portal that refuses anything else.

The alpha channel is the part people get wrong

JPG has no transparency. Converting a logo from PNG to JPG turns every transparent pixel into a solid colour — white by default, black if nobody set it. That single mistake is why converted logos end up with black boxes. Here the background colour is explicit, and defaulted to white.

HEIC: the iPhone problem

iPhones shoot HEIC by default and Chrome cannot decode it. If a HEIC file fails here, the file is fine — the browser is not. Safari decodes it, and re-exporting from Photos as JPG takes about ten seconds.

How it works

1

Add images

Drop a file, several files, or a whole folder. Nothing is uploaded.

2

Set the spec

Pick the target from this page — it is already filled in for you.

3

Download

Exact-size output, or a ZIP when you came with a batch.

Frequently asked questions

Does conversion change the file size?
Always. JPG→WebP typically shrinks 25–35%, PNG→JPG shrinks 70–90%, JPG→PNG grows 2–6×. The result row shows the exact before and after bytes.
Can I convert to AVIF here?
Not from the browser’s native encoder — Canvas cannot write AVIF. AVIF files can be read and converted to JPG, PNG or WebP. If you need AVIF output, it has to go through a server-side encoder.
Is metadata kept?
By default no: EXIF, GPS and thumbnails are dropped, because they are the part people accidentally publish. The switch in the settings keeps them when you need them.
